Let Your Land Work For You
Looking to retire, but want to ensure that you can maintain your family legacy? Lightstar’s generous lease payments often provide guaranteed income for farmers and landowners, allowing you to maintain control of your land and your wealth. Typical Lightstar community solar projects are built on 15-20 acre parcels and produce enough energy to power around 1,000 average-sized homes for a year.
You Provide the Land, We Handle the Rest
You can lease your land to Lightstar for a community solar project, at no expense to you and your family. Lightstar covers the full cost of installation, as well as any additional equipment or fencing that may be required to ensure your land is still agriculturally viable.
Farming + Solar, Together at Last
Should you want the option, our installations can be designed with crops and animals in mind. Whether you’re looking to continue crop production, or want space for your livestock to graze, we’ll provide irrigation, fencing, and all the other infrastructure you’ll need.
At Our Core, We’re Stewards of the Land
We care for your land as if it’s our own, and our goal is to leave your land in better condition than we found it. Unlike other solar companies, we support the full lifecycle of our projects, meaning we don’t leave after initial development — we continuously work with our partners to ensure the long-term success of every project.
What They're Saying
"Agrivoltaics can offer important economic opportunities for farmers. Additional benefits—for communities, for wildlife, for farmland conservation, and even for increased agricultural production of certain crops, grasses, and livestock—are possible, too." American Farmland Trust
"Responsible agrivoltaics makes sense for municipalities because it allows them to do what's best for farmers and for clean energy at the same time." Orange County NY Planning
"Local governments have a key role in incorporating smart solar siting into local land-use laws, permitting and land-use decisions, ensuring that solar energy development strengthens agriculture and best practices are implemented to protect soil health when siting on farmland." Ethan Winter, American Farmland Trust, Northeast Solar Specialist

"Up to 900,000 acres of farmland may be idled, resulting in the loss of 50,000 jobs. PPIC analysts have suggested solar as a potential way to fill that economic gap, while helping the state meet its clean energy goals. California would need to increase the amount of large-scale solar it installs each year by 60 percent through 2035 to meet requirements under a climate plan the California Air Resources board published last year.”

Stewards of the Land, Backed by Institutional Capital
You’ve never met a solar company like us. We’re one of the few providers that own and operate all of our projects, and one of the first to offer landowners the opportunity to maintain the agricultural viability of their land.
Lightstar’s immediate parent company is Eagle Creek Renewable Energy. Founded in 2010 to acquire, enhance, and operate small hydroelectric power facilities, Eagle Creek’s affiliates currently own and operate 84 hydroelectric facilities representing 691 megawatts of capacity across the United States. Eagle Creek is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, one of the largest, most diverse power generators in North America.
